Writers and readers, alone and yet together
January 28, 2022
It’s hard to feel alone in a bookstore when surrounded by the words and paper whisperings of writers.
Independent bookstores especially are places full of history, heart and hope and on a visit to Brisbane I finally got to pop in to the wonderful, independent Avid Reader Bookstore. It’s a must-visit when you’re in Queensland and I’ll be presenting a self-publishing workshop there in April.
The quote on Avid Reader’s wall reads:
think of this…
that the writer wrote alone,
and the reader read alone,
and they were alone with each other.
A.S Byatt. Possession.
I’ve never really thought about the writing and reading process like this, but now I won’t be able to stop thinking about it.
