Historical Novel Society Australasia 100K ARA Historical Novel Prize

Historical Novel Society Australasia 100K ARA Historical Novel Prize

June 4, 2023

It doesn’t get much bigger than this for writers of historical novels. The Historical Novel Society Australasia (HNSA) is again running the ARA Historical Novel Prize in 2023. Entries close June 14, 2023.

There are categories for authors in both the adult and children and young adult categories (CYA). It is currently the richest genre-based literary award in the region.

2022 winners included author Tom Keneally in the adult section and author Katrina Nannestad in the CYA category.

The award is open to authors who have been published traditionally, as well as self-published authors. Surprisingly, not all literary awards are open to indie authors, so this is a worthy appreciation of the self-publishing community by the HNSA.

According to the HNSA, $50,000 is awarded to the winner of the Historical Fiction adult category, with $5,000 to each of the shortlisted authors in the category. In the Children & Young Adult category, the winner receives a $30,000 prize and the two short listed authors receive $5,000 each.
