Grant Opportunities for Australian Writers, Authors, Illustrators, Publishers + Translators & Int’l Writers Festivals
What are some good writing grant opportunities for Australian authors, illustrators and publishers? As well as book translators, international publishers and international writers festivals and literary festivals supporting Australian authors?
The Australia Council for the Arts has some great grants that you might want to check out! This includes helping you and your work appear at overseas literary and writing festivals amongst other opportunities.
A key point to note before you get all excited, is that you (the author, the publisher, the writers festival etc) need to be registered in the Australia Council of the Arts system ‘a minimum of two business days prior to the closing date’! And this is Australian time…so get your application in early.
Two literary and book promotion grants in this batch to take a close look at include:
- The Travel Fund for Literature: There is a $5k grant thanks to the Australia Council for the Arts to ‘support travel for Australian authors & illustrators to attend events or activities associated with publication & promotion of their work overseas.’ This funding may assist with international air fares & other travel costs associated with participation in literary festivals, book tours or other promotional events.’
- The Translation Fund for Literature: International publishers wanting to translate Australian books: there is a $5k grant/contribution available from the Australian government. Australian authors and Australian publishers (including indie authors, small presses and self-publishers), this is a great opportunity to work with foreign rights agents and literary agents (or outsource your book translation) to get your book/s across the line in different markets around the world. This grant is specifically for international publishers who seek to publish works of fiction, poetry, graphic novels, KidsLit, narrative non-fiction, autobiography, essays and history books by Australian ‘living’ authors.
The next deadline to apply for these grants for writers, publishers and writers festivals is 6 December 2022 AEDST (but you do need to be set up in the Australia Council for the Arts system a number of days prior!).
