A zine for freelancers
“Pick your battles.
Nope. That’s too many battles.
Put some battles back.”
That quote is just one of the many pearlers in Rebekah Lambert’s latest 14 page zine for freelancers.
A crafty, creative, rebellious, fierce and fresh combo of words and art, the zine is topical, challenging, funny and a great reminder/refresher of what a great medium a zine can be. (fyi: if you’re not up on zines, a zine basically a thoroughly creative self-published photocopied or PDF’d ‘underground’ publication where the maker lets loose with thought and art from original and appropriated sources).
Rebekah is the founder of Freelance Jungle, a grassroots community of close to 7000 Australian and New Zealand freelancers (a few, but not all, are writers–there’s a whole spectrum of freelancers out there supporting every industry and specialty you could imagine).
The mission of Freelance Jungle, is to:
- End the isolation inherent in freelancing
- Remind freelancers that stress has a productivity cost
- Raise the knowledge bar
- Advocate and support the community
Bek is also a poet and playwright, a creative and strategic maestro, deep thinker, changemaker, coach and generous well of thoughtfulness.
When the zine popped into my mailbox (I’m a supporter on Patreon), I knew I’d want to set aside time rather than rushing through it. It was like slow food but in zine-form. It made me think, laugh out loud and gave my eyes a relaxing break from the normal text-text-text. It was less same ol’, more starburst.
This is not a paid placement or anything, I just wanted to share info on Freelance Jungle and Bek’s smarts to those who don’t know this community, quality human, and zine exist.
