A podcast, a postcard and a picture book (and more!) soon

January 31, 2022

If you haven’t heard of Australian author and podcaster Dani Vee you’re missing out on a lot of fun, information and good vibes.

Dani’s a great example of one type of modern Australian writer, not just hunkering down in a garret, but out there engaging, informing and lifting other writers up too.

Dani hosts the popular literary podcast Words and Nerds and its Publishing Insider spinoff (which has sooo much great information about the publishing industry), facilitates panels at writing and literary festivals and in her spare time this month, sent out one hundred personal haiku’s on Penguin Books postcards to writers. I was lucky enough to receive one and it just brought such a smile to my face.

Even with all this extra-curricular writing activity going on, she’s managed to score a publishing deal with Larrikin House, and her picture book My EXTRAordinary Mum will be released in August 2022. This will be followed up by a six book picture series called Unlucky Dad and a short story in a crime fiction anthology are coming soon too. (Okay I’m tired now …make that exhausted, feet up with a cold compress… wondering how she gets everything done!) 😉

We sometimes think of writing as a solitary sport, and the actual act of getting words on the page can be just that, but there’s also a vibrant, fun and friendly writing tribe out there willing you on.

Extra curricular community-building and smart marketing, whether you’re a traditionally published or self-published author, is becoming more and more crucial to helping build author careers and book visibility, and it’s just nice to know that even for writing introverts, there are some wonderfully welcoming people in the writing community, sharing lots of motivation and knowledge.

Dani’s having me on for a chat on the Words and Nerds Publishing Insider Podcast sometime in March and I can’t wait, it feels like it will be a chat with a friend.
